Archiving ... Quality Transfers

A few months ago, in the run up to London 2012, we were extremely pleased to be selected by Wheel Power and Cliff Productions to archive a collection of cine films that chronicled the birth and growth of the Paralympics. Here's a short extract from a documentary, made by our good friends at CLiff Productions, that shows just a small amount of the footage that was archived.

Capstan Roller

On the Flashscan HD the rubber roller is the only thing that makes contact with the surface of the film. The film has been air dusted and has past over the to PTR (particle transfer rollers) making them free from any surface dirt and dust. Given the importance of the capstan roller they are cleaned and conditioned on a regular basis and also replaced at suitable intervals. We're pleased to have found a UK manufacturer who has been able to make us a supply of extremely high quality rollers that help us to ensure the best possible handling of your cine films.

Scan in HD or upscale?

I've been looking at a few competitor websites and was a little shocked to see one that refers to their transfers being of such good quality that they can be upscaled to HD! To get true HD out put you need to transfer and with its true 720p capturing that's what the Flashscan can do... and we can happily [provide you with the 720p capture files on a USE device you provide. It never ceases to amaze me the number of mistruths used in the world of cine transfer and the companies who tell you hoe good their results are but refuse to tell you how they go about the transfer process.
